If you ever want to get a fix on some local history, spend a little time scrolling through YouTube. When I typed in 'Albany in the 1990s' I got this clearly ripped from VHS clip of a NewsCenter 6 broadcast from 1990.
The big news at the time was the grand opening of the Knickerbocker Arena (today the MVP Arena) and how it had a major impact driving business to Downtown Albany. Over in Troy, there was growing concern about violence against students on the Russel Sage campus. And Greyhound bus workers were on strike - picketing at the Albany bus station.
